To the Williams Community,
With a mixture of pride in her accomplishment and sadness in her leaving, I report that Lisa Corrin has decided to end her run as Director of the Williams College Museum of Art on June 30. Fortunately we won’t lose her to the community right away, as she’ll continue to teach at the College in 2011-12 while serving as a Clark Fellow at the Clark Art Institute and as a Visiting Scholar in Museum Studies at New York University.
In Lisa’s six years as Director, the Museum has made remarkable changes. With her able and dedicated staff, she’s carried out a thoughtful plan to refocus Museum activities on the College’s teaching mission, which includes, among many other initiatives, the first reinstallation of the collection in many years. The Faculty Advisory Committee she formed has helped shape these plans.
Exhibitions developed under her leadership have gained international recognition for creatively prodding, educating, and challenging viewers. At the same time, with her characteristic energy, she has entrepreneurially drawn new resources to the Museum from foundations and other supporters and intelligently focused their use on College priorities, including the diversifying of Museum staff and programming.
Lisa has also worked actively to deepen the connections among the many museum resources we benefit from in this region, and has been particularly devoted to the advancement of Kidspace, which enriches the visual education of countless local schoolchildren. A news release with a fuller list of her contributions is available here.
It’s worth noting, however, that she’s accomplished all of this at a time of considerable financial restraint.
We will begin now a national search for her successor.
We thank Lisa for enlivening our cultural and intellectual lives in so many ways and look forward to her continuing contributions, both here and in the broader world.
Best wishes,
Adam Falk
