Announcing Safa Zaki's second term as dean of the faculty

Williams faculty, staff and students,

I am pleased to inform you that Safa Zaki, the John B. McCoy and John T. McCoy Professor of Psychology, has agreed, upon completion in June 2023 of her current term as dean of the faculty, to serve a second term in the role and as a member of senior staff. I invited Safa to renew her service after consultation with the Faculty Steering Committee, whose input I greatly appreciate. Her second term will begin on July 1, 2023, and continue through June 30, 2026.

Importantly, Safa brings the insights of a faculty member to a key administrative role: she makes many of her contributions to our academic culture in meetings and close partnerships with committees and department and program chairs; through her support of searches, curricular development initiatives and faculty scholarship; and via a constellation of efforts to encourage academic innovation and collaboration. Meanwhile, Safa has also been a vital colleague on senior staff, a strong voice for faculty in our response to COVID—including on the COVID-19 Operations and Business Continuity Committee—and the leader of a skilled and experienced team in the Dean of Faculty’s office. She also co-facilitated our campus transition to staff hybrid work and helped launch strategic initiatives in the Grants Office and the new Center for Teaching.

As dean of the faculty, Safa is guiding work critical to Williams’ academic excellence. I am grateful that she has agreed to continue serving in that role for three more years.

Warm regards,

Maud
