The Passing of John Van Horn

To the Williams community,

Today we learned that a longtime Dining Services employee, John Van Horn, passed away on Nov. 3. John had retired from the college in 2010, after working here since 1971.

John was the Dodd House chef for many years, and he is remembered for his homemade sauerbraten that he would make for the annual Oktoberfest dinner.  Colleagues recall that he was a talented chef who was trained at the Culinary Institute of America.

John was born in North Adams and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. A sister, Dorothy Etman of North Adams, and several nieces and nephews survive him.

Private funeral services will be held. Our thoughts are with John’s loved ones.

Regards,
