The Passing of Janice Richards

Williams staff and faculty,

We just learned that retired staff member Janice Richards, who was a custodian at the college for more than 20 years, passed away on January 7. She was 85.

Born and raised in North Adams, she attended local schools. Known for her kindness and strong work ethic, she was employed at the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Company in North Adams, before she came to work at Williams in 1975. Outside of her job, she enjoyed spending time with her family, tending to her home and watching old movies. She was also a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Robert. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Valmore Leon Richards; her daughter, Rosemarie; sisters, Patricia and Debra; three brothers, Clarence, Bernard and Donald; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service was held on January 13 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, though memorial donations may be made to the AYJ Fund or PopCares in care of the Flynn and Dagnoli Funeral Home, Central Chapel, in North Adams.

Our deepest condolences go out to Janice’s family, colleagues and friends.

Sincerely,

Maud S. Mandel
