To the Williams community,
I write to share the sad news that retired staff member Francis Ogert, who worked in Dining Services for more than 20 years, passed away on December 8 at Hillcrest Commons. He was 80.
Born in North Adams, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He also loved to travel and visit new places. Active in the local community, he was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Williamstown, a youth group leader with the Peterburg United Methodist Church, and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. In addition, he was a member of the Williams Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Knights of Columbus.
Before he came to work at Williams in 1979, Francis served in the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Army. Those who knew him best remember his sense of humor, his love of animals, and his kindness toward others.
He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy, Eleanor, Betty, Carroll, Helen, and Ruth; and his brothers William, Kenneth, John, Howard, Nelson, and Sidney. He is survived by his former spouse, Joyce, who also worked at the college, and many nieces and nephews.
A service is not planned at this time, but the family will announce a celebration of life at a later date.
