The Passing of Barbara Trabold Cirone

To the Williams community,

It is my sad duty to inform you of the death of retiree Barbara Cirone of Williamstown and New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Barb passed away on February 21 at age 74, after a short time in hospice care.

Barb attended Drury High School in North Adams and Emmanuel College in Boston. She came to Williams in 1986, and held many roles in the Office of Alumni Relations and Development during her tenure, including supporting the director of major gifts and the vice president of alumni relations and development. She also served on the Alumni Fund team. After 22 years of service to the college, she retired as assistant to the director of our 25th Reunion Program in 2008.

The program’s volunteers remember Barb as a favorite due to her inviting personality and friendly laugh. She is also remembered for her kindness, having touched the lives of all those with whom she worked at the college. Former colleagues and friends speak of her good cheer, strong work ethic, enthusiasm for travel and new adventures, and her seemingly endless concern for others. Alumni Relations Operations Manager Deb LaPine recalls Barb as “one of the kindest women I had the pleasure to know. She was a wonderful colleague to many here at Williams and will truly be missed.”

Barb had deep roots in the local community, through her own work and relationships, as well as those of her father, Randy Trabold, a photographer at the North Adams Transcript, and her husband, Roger, a longtime teacher, coach, and principal at Drury High School. For the last decade of her life, Barb divided her time between Williamstown and Florida, though she always maintained her connection with the college, stopping by to share stories about her grandchildren and show off an enviable tan from her time on the golf course.

Barb’s husband Roger predeceased her in 2008. She is survived by her three children, John, Matt, and David; her six grandchildren; her brother, Peter Trabold; and her partner for the last three years, Patrick Stanton.

A mass in celebration of the life of Barb Cirone will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m., at Saints Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the David and Joyce Milne Public Library or a charity of your choosing.

Our hearts are with Barb’s family and friends during their time of loss.

Regards,

Tiku Majumder
Interim President
