To the Williams community,
I write to report the sad news that retired staff member Marilyn J. “Sue” Superneau, who served as a security officer at the Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) for 16 years, passed away on October 27, 2018.
Sue began at Williams in 1990 and worked at WCMA until her retirement in 2006. As a member of the security team at WCMA, she was known for her adaptability, people skills, organization, judgement, and powers of observation. In addition to her job at the museum, Sue also assisted at Elm Tree House at Mt. Hope, where she helped with special events, including the Presidential Colloquia, and tended to guests.
A North Adams native, Sue graduated from Drury High School in 1956 and then worked for several years in the art department of the Excelsior Printing Company. She also had a 35-year career as a real estate broker. An active volunteer in the community, Sue served as chair for the North Adams Regional Hospital gift shop, participated in many city political campaigns, and served on school PTAs. In addition, she was instrumental in the city’s Fall Foliage Festival Queen contest for many years, often taking winners to the Miss Massachusetts’ pageant.
Sue married Ron Superneau in 1960, and the couple had four children, Gary, Sandra, Julie, and Terri-Lynn (Hurley), who works at Williams as a senior client services specialist in the Office for Information Technology. Among Sue’s greatest joy was being with her family at Sunday dinners and attending her grandchildren’s activities.Sue was predeceased by her husband, Ron; her son, Gary; and her brother, Donald Law. She is survived by her three daughters; six grandchildren, Shelby, Michael, Kelsey, Tyler, Austin, and Dakota; sisters Bonnie Rennell and Barbara Sherman; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, October 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home-West Chapel, 521 West Main Street in North Adams.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Sue Superneau will be held on Wednesday, October 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to PopCares in care of the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home.
