The Passing of V. Marguerite Chittenden

I am sad to report the death of V. Marguerite Chittenden, 93, a Dining Services retiree who passed away at her home on Jan. 11.

Midge, as she was known, came to Williams in 1982 and retired in 1989. She is fondly remembered as a very dedicated hard worker, who mostly worked as a dishwasher in the Faculty House, but who also stepped in when she was needed for prepping and plating food.

She was born in Adams, Mass., in 1923, where she attended and graduated from Adams High School in 1942. Midge was a member of St. John Paul II Church in Adams and the Ladies of St. Anne. She was a former Girl Scout leader, enjoyed bowling and square dancing, and was an avid knitter.

She was married for 72 years to William M. Chittenden, who pre-deceased her on Dec. 2, 2016.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Gamari and her husband Michael of Winsted, Conn., Susan Chittenden of Merrimack, N.H., Sheila Kowalski and her husband Norman of Granville, N.Y.; two sons, Mark Chittenden and his wife Laurie of Adams, Matthew Chittenden and his wife Barbara of Lehigh, Fla.; a daughter-in-law Nancy Chittenden of Adams; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also pre-deceased by a son, Martin and a daughter, Shirley.
