The Passing of Helen DeRose

To the Williams Community,

I was saddened to learn of the recent passing of a Williams retiree. Helen DeRose, 88, a former cook with Dining Services, passed away on March 21.

From 1977 to 1992, Helen worked as a cook here in addition to owning and operating the Green Valley Motel, a family business, for nearly 50 years until becoming ill in 2013.

Helen was born in 1927 in Cambridge, N.Y. In 1957, she married Louis Vincent DeRose, who predeceased her in 1993. She is survived by a daughter, Luanne Spooner of Thompson, Conn.; two sons, Anthony J. DeRose of Williamstown and Richard DeRose of Dalton; two grand-daughters, Rachel DeRose of Dalton and Lauren DeRose of Adams; and a nephew, Joseph Sohl of Pownal, Vt. She was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Sohl, and a brother, Joseph Sohl.

A memorial Mass is planned for 11 a.m. May 14 at Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown. There were no calling hours.

Please join me in holding Helen’s family and friends in our thoughts.
