The Passing of Gloria Jean Sausville

To the Williams Community,

I am sad to report that a retiree recently passed away. Gloria Jean Sausville of Bennington, who worked in Dining Services for 25 years, died on September 11. She was 72.

Gloria started working for the college in 1983 as a dishwasher at Driscoll dining hall, and later moved into a salad prep position. She retired in 2009, just short of 26 years of service with the college. Co-workers remember that she often left them handwritten personal notes.

Born in Bennington, Vt., in 1944, Gloria graduated from Bennington High School and later attended the LeBarron School of Hair in Pittsfield, working in her earlier years as a hairdresser and then at the Bennington Banner before coming to Williams. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary, and the Bennington Moose Lodge. She enjoyed vacationing and in earlier years she raised and trained Shetland sheepdogs.

Gloria is survived by a daughter, Wendy Beatty  and husband Marc of Bennington; a son, Keith Stoddard and wife Dianne of Stoney Brook, Long Island, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Samantha and Sophia Stoddard of Stoney Brook and Juliette Beatty of Bennington; her companion, James Berry of Lanesboro; and several cousins.

A graveside service will take place at the family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington at a later date.

Our thoughts are with Gloria’s family and friends.

Regards,
