Dear Williams faculty and emeriti, staff and staff retirees,
I write to briefly share sad news about the death of Professor of Physics Emeritus C. Ballard Pierce, who passed away in Gainesville, Fla., on June 18, 2022. The college learned of his passing earlier this week.
Ballard Pierce joined the Williams Physics and Astronomy Department (as it was then called) in 1966 as associate professor. He later rose to become professor of physics, teaching and conducting research here until he retired in 1994. He also chaired the department from 1980 until his retirement.
